After finishing high school at the age of 13, he went to graduate from the University of Western Australia at the age of 16.
He got second in the Australian Mathematical Olympiad, he won a silver medal in the 6th Asian Pacific Mathematics Olympiad, before winning a bronze medal at the 1994 International Mathematical Olympiad held in Hong Kong.
