2014: Appointed to Rajya Sabha, representing Bihar.

During college days Harivansh was greatly influenced by t socialist leader Jayaprakash Narayan (JP). He participated actively in the JP Movement of 1974.
Harivansh Singh joined Times of India as a trainee journalist in year 1977.
Harivansh also worked with ‘Dharmyug’ magazine when he moved to Mumbai till 1981.
He also worked with Bank of India from 1981 to 1984.
When Chandrashekhar became the Prime Minister in 1990 after VP Singh, Harivansh was roped in as his additional media advisor.
With his soft spoken skill he not only revived struggling newspaper Prabhat Khabar but also launched new editions of the Hindi daily in Jharkhand, Bihar, and West Bengal.
After serving as editor in Prabhat Khabar for over 25 years, Harivansh was nominated for Rajya Sabha in 2014 by the Nitish Kumar’s JDU & was appointed in Rajya Sabha in 2014.
In 2018 he was elected as Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha
