Manohar Parrikar was an Indian politician born on 13 December 1955 and leader of Bharatiya Janata Party. Manohar Parrikar was the chief Minister of Goa at the time of his death. During Modi government he was also Defence Minister from 2014 to 2017. He died from pancreatic cancer on 17 March 2019. Manohar Parrikar Controversies
- In 2001, the Parrikar government turned over fifty-one government primary schools in rural areas to Vidya Bharati, the educational wing of the Sangh Parivar,which was severely criticized by many educationists.
- He was also criticized for approving a junket costing at least Rs 89 lakh (Rs 8.9 million) for six government MLAs from the ruling party, including three ministers, to attend the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
Manohar Parrikar Political Career
Parrikar joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) at a young age and became a mukhya shikshak (chief instructor) in the final years of his schooling.
As a member of the BJP, Parrikar was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Goa in 1994.
He become Chief Minister of Goa for the first time on 24 October 2000, but his tenure lasted only until 27 February 2002.
On 5 June 2002, he was re-elected and served another term as Chief Minister of Goa.
In November 2014, Parrikar was chosen as the Minister of Defence in Modi Government.
In March 2017, Parrikar resigned as Defence Minister & sworn in as Chief Minister of Goa.

Lesser Known Fact About Manohar Parrikar
He was the first IIT alumnus to serve as MLA of an Indian state.
He was one of cleanest minister of Indian History with no sign of Corruption on his name.
He was one of the simplest minister , as he was using Scooty to travel during his CM tenure, even he never shifted to big bungalow when he became CM. He didn’t upgrade his car as well.
As of March–June 2018, Parrikar was undergoing treatment for a pancreatic ailment at a hospital in the US.
He passed away on 17 March 2019 at the age of 63 years, due to advanced pancreatic cancer at his residence in Panaji.
